How A Zumba Instructor Ended Up Covered In Soap
Meet Dragon “Linda” Walker, our fearless founder and head soap alchemist. If you’re wondering how someone goes from leading high-energy Zumba classes to welding metal sculptures to making soap… well, so are we. But here we are, and your skin is better for it.
Before Dragon was elbow-deep in essential oils and arguing with goats about milk quality, she was busy proving that the best life stories never follow a straight line:
Soared through the air as a trapeze artist (turns out that’s great practice for dodging soap explosions)
Wielded fire as a metal sculptor (helpful when you accidentally make a batch too spicy)
And finally found her calling making soap (because apparently normal hobbies are boring)
In 2018, after one too many trips to buy overpriced, underwhelming soap, Dragon decided to do what any reasonable person would do: learn to make her own. Armed with a blowtorch (old habits die hard), some borrowed goat milk, and a questionable amount of determination, Soapy Toads was born.
Why Soapy Toads?
Some people name their companies after themselves. Some choose sophisticated, elegant names. Dragon drew two toads on a napkin while planning the business, spilled soap batter on it, and thought “Yeah, that tracks.” The toads have been in charge ever since.
What We're About
Everything here is handmade in our Saint Paul shop, where Dragon and our team of misfits turn natural ingredients into small-batch happiness. We believe:
- Clean doesn’t have to be boring
- Natural shouldn’t mean pretentious
- If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong
- Glitter is always an option (sometimes accidentally)
Our Promise
We’ll never take ourselves too seriously, but we’re dead serious about what goes into our products. Everything we make is:
- Handcrafted in small batches
- Made with natural ingredients
- Tested on willing humans (never on animals, except those two supervisory toads)
- Created with more love than sense
Come Say Hi
Find us at our Saint Paul shop Tuesday through Friday, where you can watch us work through the window (yes, those dance moves are necessary to the soap-making process). On weekends, we’re closed for production, turning our shop into a mad scientist’s lab of sudsy experiments.
Warning: Visiting our store may result in uncontrollable urges to smell everything, spontaneous outbursts of joy, and a sudden appreciation for bad puns. We take no responsibility for any glitter that follows you home.
